Congressman Sean Casten visits Curtiss St project
U.S. Congressman Sean Casten recently visited the District to view the progress of the Curtiss Street sanitary sewer lining project. Two parallel 42-inch reinforced concrete pipes, one dating to 1954 and the other to 1987, run east and west along St. Joseph Creek starting west of Chase Ave. and ending in the District’s Wastewater Treatment Center for a total of approximately 4,500 lineal feet. These pipes will be repaired under this project using the cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) rehabilitation technique. The CIPP will help prevent root intrusion, eliminate obstructions, decrease infiltration and inflow and at least double the useful life of these sewers. Todd Bonk with Visu-Sewer explained the CIPP technique to Representative Casten, District Trustees Amy Sejnost and Jeremy Wang and District General Manager Amy Underwood. Representative Casten secured $1,080,000 of federal funding for this sanitary sewer rehabilitation. The lining is expected to be completed by the end of March and the site restored shortly thereafter in early Spring.
