DGSD participates in DuPage County River Sweep and earns Adopt-A-Stream sign
On Saturday, May 18, the District participated in the annual DuPage County River Sweep with a group from the Downers Grove First United Methodist Church. Volunteers picked up about 12 garbage bags full of debris along St. Joseph Creek south of our wastewater treatment plant. They even removed larger items like boards and pipes.
Because of our participation in river clean-up events over the past several years and our partnership with the First United Methodist Church to keep the stream clean, the District earned an “Adopt-A-Stream” sign for St. Joseph Creek. The sign is located outside the wastewater treatment center on the east side of Walnut Ave near Hitchcock Ave. The church also received a sign that is located on Gilbert Ave. near Gilbert Park.
The DuPage County River Sweep is an annual cleanup event organized by the Conservation Foundation that encourages citizens to improve local waterways by removing debris and litter from a section of stream or pond. Thanks to the Conservation Foundation for organizing a great event!
