District supports restoration of Salt Creek at Fullersburg Woods
As a member of the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup, the District needs your support to restore Salt Creek. The restoration project aims to improve water quality, recreation and education on Salt Creek at Fullersburg Woods, while respecting the history of the site.
The Master Plan for Salt Creek at Fullersburg Woods proposes to create over one mile of stream restoration and fish passage on 17 miles of Salt Creek by removing the existing dam and replacing it with a rock riffle. It also includes the creation of native wetland and habitat, canoe launches and fishing stations at the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, and additional amenities at the preserve.
The removal of the dam will provide several benefits including restored fish biodiversity, increased access to recreation and education opportunities along Salt Creek, and save taxpayers money through cost-effective solutions that improve water quality.
